A Missouri State recruit who will join the Bears' women's golf team in August has qualified for the United States Women's Amateur Championship.

Ariel Tidwell of Allen, Texas, shot a four-over-par 76 on July 18 at the Dallas Athletic Club to earn one of 10 berths from the 101-player qualifying field. She'll be one of 156 players from around the nation to compete at the Amateur, to be held August 6-12 at The Country Club in Cleveland, Ohio.

Tidwell signed with the Bears last November and is one of four newcomers to the team for the 2012-13 season. She's ranked as one of the top seniors in Texas and has enjoyed a stellar summer, finishing as the fifth-best amateur and 23rd overall at the Texas Women's Open and second at the Hogan's Alley Collegiate Championship in suburban Fort Worth, Texas.

The last Bear to qualify for the U.S. Women's Amateur was Catherine Dolan, who earned a spot in the 2009 field in St. Louis. Dolan was a four-time all-conference player who helped lead MSU to the Missouri Valley Conference Championship and a berth in the NCAA Regionals this last season.
