Welber Unanimous Pick to Valley Academic Team

Missouri State's Kelsey Welber has been named to the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete First Team.

A senior from Plano, Texas, Welber was one of two unanimous picks to the team, joining conference tournament medalist Katie Jean of Illinois State. Each is a repeat selection to the first team, which is voted on by the league's sports information directors. They are joined on the seven-member unit by Bradley's Kelly Amundrud, UNI's Brittany Atterbury, Indiana State's Emily Dixon, Wichita State's Gretchen Huhnerkoch and Southern Illinois' Alisha Mathews.

MSU junior Emma Clegg was one of three student-athletes receiving honorable mention along with McCall Christopher of Indiana State and Hollie Weatherburn of Wichita State.

Welber and Clegg were each selected to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team a year ago. Welber sports a 3.83 cumulative GPA in Marketing, while Clegg has a 3.82 mark and is majoring in Geography.

Scholar-athlete nominees must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of their team's rounds or played at the State Farm MVC Championship.

Missouri State won the Missouri Valley Conference championship, April 22-24, in Terre Haute, Ind.
