Welber Earns Valley Academic Honor
Missouri State's Kelsey Welber has been named to the eight-member Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete First Team as announced by the league office Wednesday (May 4). She is also one of five players to earn all-conference honors on the course and in the classroom.
A junior from Plano, Texas, Welber has maintained a 3.81 grade point average while majoring in Marketing. She also posted a 76.16 scoring average and ranked fourth in the Valley, according to Golfstat. She posted six top-10 finishes in her last eight tournaments, including three runner-up finishes, and set the school 54-hole scoring record (215) and tied the 18-hole record (68) this past season. She was named an All-American Scholar last summer by the National Golf Coaches Association.
In order to be eligible for the scholar-athlete team, nominees must be sophomores who have at least a 3.20 GPA and who participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions or competed in the MVC Championship. Golf sports information directors in the conference voted on the award.
