Bears Finish Third at Valley Women's Golf Championship
The Missouri State women’s golf team finished third in the field of 10 teams Saturday (Apr. 23) at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship in Normal, Ill. Junior Kelsey Welber led the Bears with a score of 78--74—152 in the rain-shortened event. Playing on its campus course, host Illinois State won the championship for the fourth consecutive season with a team count of 305-292--597. Wichita State edged the Bears by one shot for second place by posting 312-304--616, compared to MSU's 318-299--617. Illinois State’s Brianna Cooper was the medalist for the event with a score of 74-70—144. Individually for MSU following Welber, freshman Rikke Falsner tied for eighth with 79-74-153, while sophomore Emma Clegg carded 79-76-155 to tie for 14th. Junior Catherine Dolan tied for 25th after shooting 85-75--160 and sophomore Emily Potts tied for 35th with 82-82-164. The Valley also released its post-season awards, and Welber and Dolan earned all-conference honors. Bradley’s Kelly Amundrud was named MVC Golfer of the Year and Cooper was the Valley Newcomer of the Year.
