Missouri State is the narrow pick to win the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship in a pre-tournament poll of the league's coaches.

The tournament will be held Sunday-Tuesday (Apr. 21-23) at The Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach, Mo., a Jack-Nicklaus-designed course acclaimed as one of the best in Missouri. It will play to a par 72 at 6056 yards for the championship.

The Bears picked up 94 total points in the voting compared to 92 for Illinois State, but the Redbirds claimed five first-place votes while MSU had four. Southern Illinois garnered the other first-place vote.

Bradley was the coaches choice for third, followed by SIU, Wichita State, Indiana State, Northern Iowa, Drake, Evansville and Creighton.

The Bears edged Illinois State by three shots last year in Terre Haute, Ind., while UNI and Bradley tied for third and SIU was fifth.

Last year's title was the second in school history for MSU and the first since 2001, breaking a four-year stranglehold on the trophy by Illinois State.

The Bears have two of the Valley's top-five players in scoring average in sophomore Megan Thompson and senior Emma Clegg, who sport marks of 77.29 and 77.36, respectively. The other Bears expected to compete are sophomore Chiara Citterio, and freshmen Lindsey Eisenreich and Ariel Tidwell.

The tournament gets underway with tee times beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday.
