Bears three off pace after first day of Valley women's golf
The Missouri State women's golf team is in second place after the opening 18 holes of the 2007 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship in Peoria, Ill. The Bears posted 309 in Sunday's (Apr. 15) first round and trail Southern Illinois by three strokes entering Monday's second round at the WeaverRidge Golf Club. Bradley is in third place at 316, followed by Illinois State (317), Evansville (319), Northern Iowa (325), Drake (327), Indiana State (332), Wichita State (335) and Creighton (336).
The Bears were led by sophomore Amy Phalajivin and freshman Stacey Rodger, who each shot 76. Junior Missy Linnens turned in a 78 for MSU, with Lyndsey Adams adding 79, Lindsey Wellenstein 80 and Sally Hinton 82. Evansville's Danielle Wolter has the early lead in the medalist race after carding 74, one better than SIU's Samantha Sutzer. Phalajivin and Rodger are in a five-way tie for third, while Linnens is tied for 10th.
After a 90-minute frost delay Sunday, Monday's tee times have been pushed back to start at 9:15 a.m.
