Rodger Posts Season Best Finish, Bears Place Ninth at UALR Women's Golf Classic
The Missouri State women’s golf team finished ninth in the UALR Women’s Golf Classic on Tuesday with a 54-hole total of 958. The Bears shot 328 in the final round of completion, playing in tough conditions both days. The 21-team field played on the 6,200-yard, par 72 Diamante Country Club in Hot Springs, Ark.
Tournament host Arkansas-Little Rock came from behind to tie with Florida International at 927. The two teams were tied at 63-over par, but the Trojans won the tiebreaker due to a better fifth score. Kelsey Kipp of UMKC was medalist for the tournament, posting rounds of 70-76-75 for a 54-hole total of 221.
Recording a 2008-09 season best tournament finish was junior Stacey Rodger, placing 13th individually. She posted a final round 80 to finish with a three-round total of 232. Second for the Bears was freshman Catherine Dolan, tied in 35th place. She finished with a 54-hole total of 243, shooting 80 on Tuesday. Senior Amy Phalajivin and freshman Kelsey Welber shot identical final rounds of 84 to tie for 47th place for the tournament at 243. Freshman Emily Potts shot 84 to finish tied in 87th at 257.
The Bears travel to Peoria, Ill. to compete in The Hotels at Grand Prairie Collegiate Classic. The tournament will be held April 5-6 on Weaver Ridge Golf Course.
Day 1 Recap
After the first 36 holes the Bears’ women were in sixth place, shooting 320-310 on the first day of competition. The team finished the day with a 36-hole total of 630, three strokes behind Eastern Michigan in fifth (627) and trail Oral Roberts in fourth (624). Leading the team competition with 18-hole rounds of 301-314 was Florida International at 615. Central Arkansas finished the day in second at 620 and tournament host, Arkansas-Little Rock was third at 623. Stephany Fleet of Eastern Michigan was first after 36 holes with rounds of 75-71146.
Rodger was low for the Bears shooting 78-74. She finished the day tied in eighth place individually with a 36-hole total of 152. Phalajivin and Welber tied in 28th after two rounds, carding 79-80 and 80-79, respectively. The two Bears’ women finished with 159. A stroke behind was Dolan posting rounds of 83-77 and finished tied for 36th at 160. Potts shot 84-89 to enter the final round tied in 90th at 173.
