Bears Build Lead at Monterey Bay

The Missouri State women's golf team expanded its lead to 18 strokes Monday (Mar. 19) after 36 holes at the Monterey Bay Invitational in Monterey, Calif. The Bears have recorded 303-307--610 over the first two days at the par 72, 6018-yard Del Monte Golf Course.
Bear freshman Chiara Citterio, playing as an individual and not eligible in the team scoring, took over the medalist lead with an even-par 72 to go with Sunday's 76, giving her a 148 total and one-stroke lead on Jennifer Dilger of Winthrop.
Senior Kelsey Welber leads another trio of Bears in the top 10, having posted 76-76--152 for fifth place. Senior Catherine Dolan is another shot back with 77-76--153 in sixth, and Megan Thompson in seventh with 77-77--154. Junior Emma Clegg is 13th after carding 79-78--157, junior Hermine Greyling is 38th with 73-91--164, and senior Emily Potts is 46th at 82-85--167.
Wichita State is second in the team race with 326-302--628, with Winthrop and Columbia tied for third with 630 totals. Houston Baptist (633) is fifth, followed by Illinois State (635), Central Arkansas (639), Cal Poly (644), Stephen F. Austin (661), Drake (662), Nebraska-Omaha (687), Cal State Bakersfield (689), Creighton (698) and St. Francis, N.Y. (798).
Tuesday's final round gets underway at 8 a.m. PDT.
