Welber Ties School Mark, Leads at Primm Valley; Bears Second
Missouri State junior Kelsey Welber takes a seven-shot lead into Tuesday's (Mar. 15) final round of the Jackrabbit Invitational after tying the school 18-hole scoring record Monday. The junior from Plano, Texas, fired 70-68--138, four under par, at the Primm Valley (Calif.) Golf Club, tying the previous school mark of 68, set by Lyndsey Adams in 2006.
Welber's play sparked the Bears to a 292-296--588 and second place in the team race, three strokes behind leader Oral Roberts. She leads the tandem of Amy Anderson of North Dakota State and Tiffany Robbins of Oral Roberts, who are both at 145.
Sophomore Emma Clegg is second for the Bears and seventh overall after shooting 75-73--148, with junior Catherine Dolan tied for ninth with 74-76--150. Freshman Rikke Falsner is tied for 15th at 73-79--152 and sophomore Hermine Greyling carded 80-79--159 and is 40th. Junior Emily Potts and sophomore Emily Matthews are tied for 29th while competing as individuals, both shooting 156. Potts posted 78-78 while Matthews had 80-76.
ORU shot 295-290--585 to take the team lead with the Bears three back and Oakland in third with 315-296--611. Iowa is fourth (612), followed by UMKC (616), Bucknell and South Dakota State (617), Western Illinois (619), North Dakota State (622), Southern Utah (642), Drake (643), Northern Iowa (653), North Dakota (702) and South Dakota (704).
Tuesday's final round is slated for an 8:15 Pacific time shotgun start.
