Welber Leads, Bears Third Entering Last Round at Rio Verde

The Missouri State women's golf team is in contention in both the medalist and team race entering Sunday's (Mar. 11) final round of the Rio Verde Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz.
Bear senior Kelsey Welber has a one-shot lead after firing an even-par 71 on Saturday (Mar. 10), while, as a team, MSU is in third place, five strokes out of the lead.
Welber carded 75 in Friday's opening round and is at 146 after 36 holes, four over par. She has a one-shot edge on four other players. Teammate Emma Clegg has posted a pair of 77's and is tied for 20th at 154. Senior Catherine Dolan and junior Hermine Greyling are just another shot back at 155 and in a tie for 23rd. Dolan has recorded 76-79, while Greyling has 78-77. Freshman Megan Thompson has 80-77--157 and is tied for 31st. In the team competition,
Akron has a one-shot edge over Penn State. The Zips have recorded 305-298--603 and Penn State has 310-294--604. The Bears are next in the closely-bunched field with 306-302--608, one in front of Kansas and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Eastern Michigan is sixth at 614, followed by Arkansas-Little Rock (621), Western Michigan (625), Northern Arizona (633), Wichita State (634), Ball State (635), Toledo (637), Xavier (638), Yale (643), Bradley (649) and Ohio (650).
Sunday's final round is scheduled for an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
