Dolan Wins at Rio Verde, Bears Finish Fourth
Catherine Dolan captured the first title of her collegiate career Sunday (Mar. 6) and the Missouri State women's golf team posted a season-best 299 in the final round at the Rio Verde Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz. The Bears moved up three spots to finish fourth in the 17-team field by shooting 314-310-299--923, while their 299 was the best score in the field on the final day.
Dolan and teammate Rikke Falsner posted a 1-2 finish to lead the way for MSU. A junior from Ballwin, Mo., Dolan entered the final round in fourth place and trailing Kristen Hill of Akron by two shots, but fired a one-under-par 71 on the 6300-yard White Wing Course at Rio Verde Country Club, the only sub-par round of the day. She shot 73-74-71--218 for the tournament to post a four-stroke victory over Falsner and three others.
Falsner, a freshman from Charlottenlund, Denmark, entered the day in tenth place, but was one of only two players to match par on the way to her best collegiate finish. She recorded 74-76-72--222 and tied with Hill, Brittany Kelly of Ball State and Robyn Scott of Eastern Michigan.
