Thompson Places Third, Bears Fourth at Stewart Memorial

Junior Megan Thompson finished third in the medalist race and led the Missouri State women's golf team to a fourth-place finish at its own Payne Stewart Memorial in Springfield on Tuesday (Oct. 15).
The tournament was held at the par 72, 6082-yard Rivercut Golf Course.
Thompson shot 76-70-73--219, posting career lows for 18 and 54 holes, and finished just four shots off the pace set by medalist Lina Aguillon of Redlands C.C. Teammate Estefania Acosta, playing in her first tournament for the Bears, tied for eighth by carding 75-75-76--226.
MSU finished fourth in the team race, posting 311-297-306--914. Oral Roberts captured first with 296-296-299--891 and a 14-stroke cushion over runnerup Wichita State with its 297-298-310--905. Southern Illinois was third in the 17-team field with 910, followed by the Bears, North Dakota State (922), UALR and South Dakota State (929), Oklahoma City (940), Drake and UNI (943), UMKC (944), Redlands C.C. (949), Bradley (951), Valparaiso (959), South Dakota (969), Drury (978) and Creighton (997).
Individually for MSU, sophomore Lindsey Eisenreich followed Thompson and Acosta, shooting 80-73-80--233 to tie for 26th. Sophomores Caroline Boone and Megan Furnish, both playing as individuals and not able to count toward the team score, placed 31st and 35th, respectively. Boone carded 75-79-80--234, while Furnish had 74-83-79--236.
The Bears will conclude their fall season Oct. 27-28 at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C.
