Clegg Leads, Bears Second After First Day at Stewart Memorial

Missouri State senior Emma Clegg will take a four-stroke lead into Tuesday's (Oct. 16) final round of the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial, while the Bears' women's golf team sits seven shots behind Arkansas-Little Rock in the team race.
Clegg fired 71-73--144 on Monday, even par, over 36 holes at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, while the Bears posted 298-302--600, a season best team total.
UALR carded 298-295--593 to take the lead, while the second-place Bears are two clear of Oral Roberts, which posted 308-294--602. Wichita State and Oklahoma City are tied for fourth at 611, followed by Nebraska (623), UMKC (624), Drake (631), Indiana State (636) and Valparaiso (642) rounding out the top 10.
Nebraska-Omaha and Drury are tied for 11th at 646, followed by Creighton (654), Rockhurst (678) and South Dakota (679).
Meanwhile, Clegg's career-best day placed her four clear of UALR's Emelie Westrup, ORU's Shinwoo Lee and OKC's Elia Folch.
Freshman Lindsey Eisenreich was second for the Bears and tied for 12th overall after shooting 76-75--151. Sophomore Megan Thompson and freshman Ariel Tidwell are tied for 18th with 153 totals; Thompson shot 76-77, while Tidwell had 75-78. Senior Hermine Greyling, the defending tournament champion, shot 79-77--156 and is tied for 30th.
Three MSU players competed as individuals with sophomore Chiara Citterio tops among those with 79-78--157 and in 34th place. Freshman Megan Furnish carded 83-77--160 and is tied for 39th, while senior Amy Bowen is 89th with 90-90--180.
Tuesday's final round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
