Golfweek Conference Challenge - Final Results
WOLCOTT, Colo. - The Missouri State women's golf team wrapped up the Golfweek Conference Challenge on Wednesday and played some of its best golf on the final day of competition. Highlighting the third-round performances were freshman Ariel Tidwell and returners Megan Thompson and Emma Clegg.
After registering an 89 and 85 during Monday and Tuesday's first and second rounds, Tidwell found some rhythm on Wednesday, shooting a 2 over par 74. In fact, her score of 74 was the top round of any MSU golfer throughout the three-day tournament. Tidwell finished tied for 84th.
Senior Emma Clegg and sophomore Megan Thompson, who were separated by one stroke heading into the final round, tied for 44th. Leading the Bears in the individual standings, Clegg posted a 77-76-77--230, while Thompson matched a tournament-best 76 on Wednesday to finish 76-78-76--230.
Rounding out the Bears' golfers was sophomore Chiara Citterio (83rd), who carded an 82-79-86--247. Senior Hermine Greyling didn't compete Wednesday and finished with a two-round score of 83-82--165.
Despite finishing last in the team standings, the Bears carded a 318-315-313--946 and improved each round at the par-72 Red Sky Golf Club. Missouri State was among a field of 18 teams including three Top 25 squads (No. 2 UCLA, No. 19 Oklahoma, No. 24 Pepperdine), and five teams receiving votes in the latest NGCA Coaches' Poll. Pepperdine took home the team title and was five strokes ahead of second-place UC Davis.
Next, Missouri State will travel to nearby Columbia, Mo., to play in the Sixth Annual Johnie Imes Invitational, hosted by the University of Missouri (Oct. 1-2).
