Chip-N Club Invitational - Day 1 Results
LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Missouri State women's golf kicked off the 2012-13 season on Monday with 36 holes at the Chip-N Club Invitational, hosted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. With one round remaining on Tuesday, the Bears find themselves in the middle of the pack, currently in sixth place out of 13 teams.
Missouri State shot 314-315--629 in the first day of action at the historic Country Club of Lincoln. The Bears were led by sophomore Chiara Citterio, and fellow teammates Emma Clegg and Megan Thompson, who played a key role in the MSU's championship run at the 2012 MVC Women's Golf Championships. The trio combined for three of the top 14 spots on the individual leaderboard.
Citterio and Clegg recorded identical scores (76-78--154) in the first two rounds and are tied for 11th place. Thompson, who is currently tied for 13th, shot one of the better second rounds of the tournament (3-over-75) and climbed back into the lead pack, just one stroke behind Citterio and Clegg.
Missouri and SMU hold a comfortable lead in the 1-2 spots of the team standings with 18 holes remaining. The Tigers who broke the +300 barrier in the first round, shot 299-312--611, while the Mustangs fired off a 304-310--614 for the day. Also ahead of the Bears are Iowa (t-3rd) and North Dakota State (t-3rd), along with Kansas State (5th).
For Missouri State, freshmen Lindsey Eisenreich and Ariel Tidwell rounded out the Bears' lineup. Eisenreich is tied for 54th after shooting 82-87--169, with Tidwell at 86-84--170 in a tie for 57th place.
Pairings for Tuesday's final round will be determined by Monday's scores through the first two rounds. Tuesday's shotgun start is set for 8:30 a.m. The low four individual scores will determine the team score for each round.
