SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. - After two days of ideal weather for the 2013 MVC Women's Golf Championship, the 10-team field braved adverse conditions at The Club at Porto Cima, which included steady rain and temperatures hovering around 40 degrees on Tuesday (April 23).

Tied for third and only three strokes back entering Tuesday's final round, the Missouri State women's golf team was unable to make a move on the final day. Slipping to fifth in the team standings, the Bears carded a 54-hole total of 984. MSU finished seven strokes behind team champion Illinois State.

With a come-from-behind victory, Illinois State earned its 13th conference championship after shooting a 327 (+39) for the day. The Redbirds, who were picked second in the Valley pre-championship poll, have now won seven team titles since 2004.

The pre-championship favorite Bears placed two golfers in the top 10 of the individual leaderboard including underclassmen Ariel Tidwell and Chiara Citterio. As a freshman, Tidwell finished as the Bears' top golfer in eighth place, posting a 79-79-85--243. Citterio, who posted the lowest round (12-over-84) on Tuesday, finished second among MSU student-athletes in a tie for ninth. She finished the tournament with an 83-77-84--244.

In her final tournament as a Bear, senior Emma Clegg posted a top-20 finish, rebounding from a 90 in Sunday's first round. Clegg (90-73-85--248) moved all the way up to 15th place, tying with Bradley's Thea Hedemann.

Freshman Lindsey Eisenreich completed her first go-around at the MVC Championship in a tie for 26th, carding an 85-84-85--254. Battling injury throughout the tournament was sophomore Megan Thompson, who rounded out the Bears' five. Thompson recorded an 84-85-89--258 through three rounds.

Missouri State was represented by Clegg, Thompson and Tidwell on the MVC All-Conference team, announced by the Valley following the tournament. The all-conference squad was a combination of top players from this weekend, as well as individuals based on regular-season rankings.

Illinois State's Katie Jean collected the hardware on Tuesday. In addition to claiming medalist honors with a 77-74-82--233, Jean was named MVC Golfer of the Year and earned the Elite 18 Award.
