SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. - The Missouri State women's golf team made up significant ground in Monday's second round at the 2013 MVC Women's Golf Championship, played at The Club at Porto Cima. The Bears chipped away at Wichita State's substantial first-day lead moving into a tie for third place with Bradley and only three strokes behind the Shockers.

Collectively, Missouri State shot the best round on Monday with a 325, also tying the Shockers for the best 18-hole total for the tournament. During the first round, Wichita State also posted a 325 to develop its early lead in Sunrise Beach, Mo.

"We accomplished what we needed to today and that was to get back in the game and back in contention," Missouri State head coach Kevin Kane said. "We're in a great spot. We just need the chance to play with the forecast the way it is. I know we'll battle and compete, giving us a chance down the stretch."

Four Missouri State student-athletes improved on their Day 1 scores, while freshman Ariel Tidwell duplicated her +7 performance to finish with the best two-round total among the Bear golfers.

Tidwell, a freshman from Allen, Texas, is one of two MSU golfers currently ranked in the top 10. With birdies on Holes 2, 7 and 13, Tidwell (79-79--158) moved up the rankings into a four-way tie for fifth place.

Also moving into the top 10 was Missouri State's Chiara Citterio, who posted a six-stroke improvement. Citterio (83-77--160) played a consistent round with two birdies and 11 pars to finish Tuesday at 5-over-77. The sophomore leads the tournament in par-5 scoring and is tied for ninth at +16.

Returning to form on Day 2 was Missouri State's No. 1 golfer Emma Clegg (90-73--163). Following a shaky first-round performance (t-39th), the senior from England ascended to 16th place and improved 17 strokes from Sunday. She carded a 1-over-73, while playing a double bogey-free round. Clegg's +1 was the third-best single-round performance of the tournament, only behind Bradley's Christie Lin (-1) and SIU's Cassie Rushing (E) on Monday.

Rounding out the Bears' contingent is sophomore Megan Thompson and freshman Lindsey Eisenreich, both tied for 26th at +25. The MSU pair have shot identical 85-84--169 during the first two rounds of play.

Because the Bears shot the lowest round on Monday, they own a tiebreaker with Bradley for third place and have earned the pairing for Tuesday with Wichita State (1st) and SIU (2nd).

At the top of the individual leaderboard is defending champion Katie Jean of Illinois State and Salukis' Cassie Rushing. The two are tied at +7 and hold a six-stroke lead.

Due to heavy storms in the forecast, the time for tomorrow's final round has been altered to a 10 a.m. shotgun start.
