Two Field Hockey Bears Named to All-MAC Teams
Senior Melissa Lantz has been named to the All-Mid-American Conference First Team, while fellow Wildwood, Mo., native and senior Alyssa Hile has been named to the second team, the league announced Thursday.
It is the second-straight year Lantz has been named to an all-conference team, after taking home second team honors her junior season. This is the first such honor for Hile.
The senior captains had offensive seasons to remember. They finished as the Bears' top two in goals, assists and points, starting all 20 games. The duo also either assisted on or scored 33 of the team's 44 goals for the season.
Lantz's 15 goals and 39 points were the second-highest totals in the MAC this season, while her nine assists placed her sixth in the conference. She spent her 2009 season climbing up the Missouri State all-time career leaderboards, finishing sixth in goals with 38 and second in points with 93.
Hile tied for third in the MAC this season with 11 goals, her career high for a single season, and placed 10th with six assists. Her 28 points are 11th highest total for a single season in school history.
Both Lantz and Hile came up big when it mattered most, as each had two game-winning goals. Eleven of Lantz's goals came in 10 conference games.
Both Hile and Lantz were named MAC Player of the Week once this season.
Lantz is the first Bear to be named to the first team since Sarah Johnson in 2007.
