Missouri State Field Hockey Plays Top Team Tough, Loses to Kent State, 3-2
Missouri State field hockey allowed a late goal to break a 2-2 tie, and fell to the first-place Mid-American Conference team, the Kent State Golden Flashes, 3-2, in Kent, Ohio. After falling behind 2-0 early in the first half, Melissa Lantz (Wildwood, Mo.) and the Bears mounted a comeback. Lantz scored just before halftime and again in the 44th minute to tie the game. Both goals came off penalty corners with Alyssa Hile (Wildwood, Mo.) and Sarah Cusick (San Diego, Calif.) notching assists each time. The two scores bring Lantz's season total to 13, good for second in the conference. Eleven of those goals have come in the last seven games. But Lantz's offensive outburst was not enough to overcome a powerful Kent State team, as the Golden Flashes scored with less than six minutes to play to seal its sixth MAC victory in seven games. The Bears take to the field tomorrow in Athens, Ohio, as they face the Ohio University Bobcats. The last time the two met, the Bears scored a dramatic overtime win in Springfield, 3-2. Start time is 12 p.m.
