Melissa Lantz Named MAC Offensive Player of the Week
Senior Melissa Lantz (Wildwood, Mo.) has been named Mid-American Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Lantz shares the award with Miami's (Ohio) Mary Hull.
In the Bears' first two games of their weekend road trip, Saint Louis and Ball State, Lantz continued her season-long impressive offensive output. Her one goal and one assist helped MSU sweep the season series against in-state rival Saint Louis with a 3-0 victory. Two days later against Ball State, she spurred the Bears to a big second-half lead with two goals and another assist, before the Bears' fell to Ball State, 4-3.
Her eight points over the weekend give her 29 on the season, good for the MAC lead. She is currently second in goals scored, with 11, and in assists, with 7.
Lantz's play this season has helped make her a part of Missouri State field hockey history. Her 11 goals this season give her 34 for her career, moving her into tenth place on the Missouri State all-time goals scored list.
Lantz is the second Bear to receive the award this season. Senior Alyssa Hile (Wildwood, Mo.) received the honor for the regular season's second week.
