The Missouri State field hockey team (4-7 overall, 2-0 Mid-American Conference) looks to remain undefeated in MAC competition when they take on conference opponent Central Michigan at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Plaster Sports Complex.
The Last Time
Central Michigan took all three contests between the teams last year. The Bears lost to the Chippewas 3-1 in the first round of the MAC Championship on Nov. 3, 2011. In regular-season competition, the Chippewas defeated MSU by scores of 4-0 and 5-1 on on Oct. 1 and 2.
♦ Missouri State is 11-26-1 all-time against Central Michigan. The Bears seek to beat the Chippewas for the first time since 2010.
♦ With their win over Miami (Ohio) on Sept. 29, the 2012 Bears became the first Missouri State field hockey team to start MAC play with a 2-0 record. The 2001 Bears, then a member of the NorPac conference, won their first two conference games en route to a 6-0 league record and a first-place finish in the East Division.
♦ Senior defender Reiann Stoute remains tied for first nationally with six defensive saves on the season. As a team, the Bears have the second-most defensive saves in the country (11). Miami (Ohio) leads the country with 12.
♦ Junior forward Hillary Lawless has moved into the school’s top-10 career points leaders. Lawless’ two goals on Saturday gave her 54 career points, moving her past Jemima Cameron for eighth place on the list. With two more points, Lawless will surpass Missouri State head coach Gabby Gomez Sosa for seventh place.
