Field Hockey Bears Return Home to Face Rival Saint Louis
SPRINGFIELD - The field hockey Bears welcome Saint Louis to Plaster Field, Wednesday, Sept. 29, for a 4 p.m. match-up between the in-state rivals. It will be the second meeting for the teams this season.
The Bears (2-6) took the first game in St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 10, with a 1-0 win. The defensive struggle featured only nine shots on goal, seven from the Bears, with Catrina Schmidt (Fr., St. Louis, Mo.) scoring the game's only goal. Schmidt's first career goal came of a well-executed penalty corner in which Lori Sinclair (St. Louis, Mo.) and Casey Bayliss (Bathurst, NSW, Australia) earned assists.
The Billikens' (0-10) Alex LaBarge kept it close with her work between the pipes. The junior saved six Missouri State shots, but could not duplicate the Bears' Steph Anderson's shutout, the third of her career.
The Bears have not won since their trip to St. Louis, dropping four straight, including a heart-breaking, double-overtime 2-1 loss to UC Davis at home. They fell 4-2 to former NorPac rival Pacific in their last time out.
Missouri State leads the all-time series 54-27-2 and has won five straight. Live stats will be available through MissouriStateBears.com.
