Missouri State field hockey held scoreless by No. 16 Louisville
The Missouri State field hockey team lost to No. 16 Louisville 5-0 Saturday afternoon in Iowa City, Iowa. The loss drops the Bears to 0-5 on the season, while the Cardinals' record evens at 3-3.
The Cardinals were up 2-0 at halftime with goals at 13:59 by Janelle Avila off a pass by Missy Briery and 30:41 by Nicole Youman, assisted by Jenna Ahern. Louisville came out swinging in the second half, putting three in the net. Avila scored a second time at 42:34 with help from Allison Maffitt. Maffitt then scored unassisted at 46:33. The Cardinals' fifth goal came at 63:59 by Kayla May off a pass by Nikki Auker.
The Bears were held to a season-low two shots while Louisville posted 25 with 15 on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Kim Kinsella had six saves, with a season total of 61. Junior goalkeeper Jessica Schuster also saw playing time and made two stops in the game.
The Bears play at No. 4 University of Iowa, Sunday at 1 p.m., before opening up the home season against Saint Louis University and Robert Morris on Sept. 14 and Sept. 16.
