The Missouri State field hockey team went to 2-0 on the young 2008 season after defeating Robert Morris 2-1 in overtime in Pittsburg, Pa., Monday.

After going a scoreless first half, junior Melissa Lantz scored her third goal of the season in the 46th minute of the game for the Bears to take the lead.

Robert Morris’ Julie Gabriel scored the game tying goal about a minute later to send the match into overtime.

Over a minute into the overtime period, Lantz found fellow junior Alyssa Hile for the game-winning goal.

The Bears and the Colonials both had eight shots, but the Bears had five on goal with two getting past the Colonials’ goalkeeper.

Missouri State holds a 3-0 series lead over Robert Morris. The Bears also tied the total games won in 2007 in one weekend of play in 2008.

Missouri State returns to play Indiana and Saint Louis universities in St. Louis on Sept. 5, and Sept. 6. Both games are set to start at 1 p.m. The Bears first home game is on Tues., Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. at Plaster Field against Lindenwood University.
