SPRINGFIELD - Missouri State field hockey head coach Gabby Gomez Sosa announced the addition of a fourth freshman student-athlete for the 2013 season on Thursday (July 11), as midfielder Kayleigh Schmitz signed a National Letter of Intent to join the squad.

A versatile player who has experience as a midfielder, on defense and at wing positions, Schmitz is expected to play the midfield position for the Bears. With quickness and top-notch passing skills, she played the 2012-2013 season as a vice-captain for club team HC Eindhoven A1, which earned a first-place finish in the international tournament in Eindhoven.

A year earlier, Schmitz competed for club team HTC Son, which earned second-place finishes three times - during the fall and spring outdoor seasons, and winter indoor season.

A native of Eindhoven, The Netherlands, Schmitz has played field hockey for more than a decade. She began her career at age 7 with hockey club HC Eindhoven. Just four years later, she was picked to compete at the D1 level, the best possible team for players that age.

Schmitz is the second Dutch player to sign with the Bears this season, as she will join defender Suzanne Kleine (Boskoop, The Netherlands) on the team in 2013.

The field hockey signing period extends to Aug. 1.
