SPRINGFIELD -- The Missouri State field hockey team helped solidify its future with the addition of three freshman student-athletes for the 2013 season, head coach Gabby Gomez Sosa announced today (May 2). The Bears will welcome goalkeeper Megan Drew, defender Suzanne Kleine and forward Ciara Saunders into the fold this fall.

Megan Drew / Goalkeeper / San Diego, Calif.

Megan Drew, a goalkeeper from San Diego, Calif., will help solidify Missouri State's future in net. A three-year all-conference performer for Del Norte High School, Drew recorded 14 shutouts and 152 saves for the Nighthawks as a senior. A mainstay in net, Drew played every minute of every game in 2011 and 2012, notching a .864 save percentage and a .929 goals against average as a senior. Those accomplishments helped her earn several awards in 2012, including first-team all-conference and player of the year from the Avocado East League.

Gomez Sosa's Take on Megan Drew
"I think Megan has what it takes to take over back there in goal. Obviously, she'll have two seniors (Andrea Bain and Katie Mulloy) ahead of her. That definitely provides her a chance to grow and gain as much experience as possible, because it will all be in her hands after that."

Suzanne Kleine / Defender / Boskoop, The Netherlands

Suzanne Kleine, a defender from Boskoop, The Netherlands, will join a Missouri State defensive line that lost senior two-time all-conference selection Reiann Stoute after the 2012 season. Kleine played for Hockey Club Waddinxveen in The Netherlands, where she was team captain. Kleine's teams won four championships during her six years of competition.

Gomez Sosa's Take on Suzanne Kleine
"She's very knowledgeable and will reinforce our defense. She'll be very vocal back there and help our transition from our defense to our midfielders to our forward line. When you bring someone from a different background and another country, you bring diversity to your team. I think confidence-wise, she won't be shy."

Ciara Saunders / Forward / Severna Park, Md.
Ciara Saunders is a versatile player from Seton Keough High in Severna Park, Md., and is expected to be part of MSU's forward line in 2013. The senior earned all-conference recognition, was named team MVP last year as a senior and was part of a Seton Keough squad that dominated its competition in 2012 with a 13-0 record in conference and an 18-3-2 ledger overall. The Gators' dominance extended beyond their record, as they outscored their opponents 72-5 overall and 54-0 in conference play.

Gomez Sosa's Take on Ciara Saunders
"Ciara will be in our forward line. She's a hard-working player and very feisty, just the way she plays with speed. We already have a fast forward line, but she'll add some diversity. I think she has the ability to come in and contribute."

Missouri State is coming off a 5-11-0 campaign in 2012 with a roster that featured 13 freshmen. The field hockey signing period extends to Aug. 1.
