CHANDLER, Ariz. -- The Missouri State field hockey team was selected as a recipient of a 2013 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Team Award, the organization announced Tuesday (March 18).

The award recognizes Division I field hockey programs that achieved team GPAs of 3.0 or better during the first semester of the 2013-2014 academic year.

The Bears notched a team GPA of 3.51 during the fall 2013 semester, fourth-best among Division I field hockey programs. MSU trailed only American University (3.58 GPA), Central Michigan University (3.54) and Hofstra University (3.53).

Missouri State has received the award seven times, last picking up the NFHCA accolades in 2011, and five-straight seasons from 2005-2009.

Previously, sophomores Charlie Redhead (Norfolk, England) and Holly Scherer (Belmont, Ontario) were named to the Academic All-MAC Team, and 13 other field hockey Bears earned honorable mention spots on the Academic All-MAC Team.
