Redhead, Scherer Selected to Field Hockey Academic All-MAC Team
Sophomores excelled on the field and in the classroom in 2013

CLEVELAND – Missouri State field hockey sophomores Charlie Redhead (Norfolk, England) and Holly Scherer (Belmont, Ontario, Canada) were named to the Academic All-MAC Team, the league announced Wednesday (Jan. 15). The awards are the first conference academic laurels for both players.
In addition, 13 other field hockey Bears picked up Academic All-MAC honorable mentions.
In her second year at Missouri State, Redhead majors in biology and posted career highs in goals and assists (2), points (6), shots (12) and shot percentage (.167) during the 2013 season en route to a spot on the All-MAC second team. Redhead was a solid presence for the Bears and consistently distributed the ball to her teammates. The midfielder was credited with an assist on Scherer’s game-winning goal at Saint Louis on Oct. 15.
Scherer majors in human resources management and followed up a spectacular rookie season with another solid campaign in 2013 as she matched career highs in goals (5), game-winning goals (2) and games played (16). Scherer, a forward, set a new career high with 34 shots and ranked among the MAC’s top-10 in shots per game (2.12, 5th) and game-winning goals (2, 4th). As a freshman, Scherer was named to the 2012 All-MAC second team.
Senior goalkeepers Andrea Bain (Victoria, British Columbia) and Katie Mulloy (Antioch, Ill.) senior forward Catrina Schmidt (St. Louis, Mo.) and senior midfielder Laura Tavares (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) were among those picked to the honorable mention squad. This is the third conference honorable mention for each player.
Redshirt freshman forward Brynne Satre (Davis, Calif.) also earned a spot on the honorable mention team.
In all, 21 student-athletes from MAC field hockey schools were named to the Academic All-MAC team, which was voted upon by faculty athletics representatives from those institutions.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, they must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for their particular sports. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
