St. Charles, Mo. -

The Missouri State field hockey squad (5-11-0, 1-7-0) tasted victory with a 2-1 win over the Lindenwood Lions (1-10-0) on Saturday evening. The win was the Bears fourth non-conference win of the season.

The Bears got on the scoreboard late in the 21st minute of play, as senior Casey Bayliss passed it in to sophomore Hillary Lawless for the goal. This was Lawless' eighth goal of the season. Missouri State would hold the 1-0 lead into halftime.

Sophomore Laura Tavares would find the back of the net for the Bears' second goal of the match in the 55th minute of play, off another assist from Bayliss. Lindenwood would answer with a goal of their own late in the second half, but Missouri State's defense, led by sophomore Catrina Schmidt, would be enough to hold the lead and come away with the 2-1 victory.

"Catrina had a great game at back," said assistant coach Erika Dombkowski. "She was patient holding off the opponent and consistently won the ball."

Sophomore Meagen Good had a defensive save, her first of the season, and sophomore goalkeeper Andrea Bain racked up two saves for the Bears.

The Bears will return home next week to Plaster Field to finish up regular season play, facing Miami (Ohio) on Saturday (Oct. 29) at 9:00 a.m. and Ball State on Sunday (Oct. 30) at 11:00 a.m.
