Muncie, Ind. -
The Missouri State field hockey squad (3-10-0, 0-6-0) was unable to see their first conference win of the season, falling to Ball State (3-11-0, 3-3-0) Sunday morning, at Muncie, Ind. 3-2. "Although I wish the score would have been different, I am very happy with our performance today", said head coach Gabby Gomez Sosa. "Everyone played the full seventy minutes."
Junior Reiann Stoute made her third goal of the season with a little help from Laura Tavares on the assist within the first ten minutes of play. This was the second match in a row Stoute has scored for the Bears. Though Missouri State went into halftime trailing 2-1, the Bears came out firing the second half. Senior Casey Bayliss tied the match up 2-2 in the 45th minute of play. Bayliss' goal came from a corner shot and was assisted by Hillary Lawless. "We moved the ball well as a unit", said coach Gomez Sosa.
Ball State would score in the 63rd minute of play to take the lead, but Missouri State would not let up. Lawless had a chance to score in the last five seconds of the game but could not come away with the goal. "Everyone fought until the end", said coach Gomez Sosa. Bears' keeper Andrea Bain made 10 saves in her seventy minutes of play during the match.
Next Missouri State will head to Athens, Ohio to take on Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 1:00 p.m. CT. The Bears will continue their trip in Ohio to head over to Kent State on Sunday, Oct. 16. The Kent State match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. CT, as well.
