SPRINGFIELD -The Missouri State field hockey team's conference winning streak was snapped here Saturday as the Bears (4-8, 2-1 MAC) fell to visiting Central Michigan, 4-0.
The Bears and Chippewas were locked in a scoreless tie until the 17th minute of the second half when Central Michigan scored four goals in the span of about 14 minutes.
CMU’s Bailey McKeon got the visitors on the board in the game’s 52nd minute when she took a pass across the circle from Erica Garwood and scored right in front of the goal.
About five minutes later, Mary Alice Moore scored past MSU goalkeeper Andrea Bain off a rebound. Central Michigan’s Jordyn Brengosz and Erin Dye knocked in goals in the game’s final 10 minutes to bring the final margin to 4-0.
Andrea Bain stopped nine shots in 13 attempts, while senior defender Reiann Stoute picked up a defensive save.
Central Michigan out-shot the Bears 19-to-5, and had a 12-to-8 advantage in penalty corners.
Missouri State’s next game is Saturday, Oct. 13 when they take on MAC opponent Ohio in Athens, Ohio. The game is scheduled to start at noon.
