ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Another strong defensive showing by the Missouri State field hockey team went for naught, as the Bears dropped their fifth-straight game, 1-0, to the Bryant Bulldogs on Saturday (Sept. 21).
The Bears (1-6) and Bulldogs (5-1) dueled to a scoreless tie through the first 64:50, but Bryant’s Rosie Bird scored the game-winner with a shot off a penalty corner. Olivia Jankins assisted on the goal, which was taken directly in front of the goal and MSU goalkeeper Andrea Bain (Sr., Victoria, British Columbia).
The loss was MSU’s second-straight by a 1-0 score, and the Bryant goal was only the fifth allowed by MSU in the last 245:18, covering 3 ½ games. Bain notched a solid performance in net, picking up four saves in five attempts.
Bryant out-shot MSU 10-to-5, and gathered five shots on goal compared to zero for the Bears. Holly Scherer recorded two shots for the Bears, while Hillary Lawless, Liz Young and Sydney Richelieu had one each.
Missouri State returns to action on Friday (Sept. 27) with a match at Michigan. The game is slated to start at 3 p.m. in Ann Arbor, Mich.
