Second-Half Goal Sinks Field Hockey Bears in 1-0 Defeat vs. Robert Morris
Sept. 14, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Another solid defensive performance by the Missouri State field hockey team wasn't enough against Robert Morris, as the Colonials handed the Bears their second-straight shutout loss, 1-0, on Saturday (Sept. 14).
The game was locked in a scoreless tie until Robert Morris (4-1) forward Chloe McIlwaine scored in the 53rd minute. McIlwaine scored with a shot into the left side of the cage after taking a pass off a penalty corner from Jamie Hartley.
The Robert Morris goal was only the fourth allowed by the Missouri State defense in the last 175:18, covering 2 1/2 games.
Missouri State goalkeeper Andrea Bain (Sr., Victoria, British Columbia) was terrific for the second-straight day, as she stopped five shots in six attempts vs. the Colonials. Hillary Lawless notched two shots on goal, while Liz Young and Sydney Richelieu had one each.
Robert Morris out-shot the Bears 14-to-4, but MSU (1-5) nearly matched the Colonials in shots on goal, 6-to-4. RMU recorded 11 penalty corners to Missouri State's three.
The Bears will look to snap their four-game losing streak when they play a neutral-site match vs. Bryant on Saturday (Sept. 21) in St. Louis, Mo. The contest is slated for a 1 p.m. (Central) start.
