COLUMBUS, Ohio – Hillary Lawless scored for the second-straight game, but the Missouri State field hockey squad (1-3) lost 5-1 to Bucknell on Saturday (Sept. 7).
Bucknell (1-2) did all of its scoring in the first half. The Bison stuck the Bears with an early deficit when Rachel Misko took a pass from the right side of the cage and scored just 31 seconds into the match.
Missouri State’s defense held the fort until the 14th minute, until Emma Fitzgerald scored off a rebound to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Bison. The Bears’ defense then posted another 13-minute defensive stand, but Bucknell’s Hope Obernesser and Kiersten Sydnor scored goals just 28 seconds apart in the 27th minute.
Sydnor then made it 5-0 with 18 seconds remaining in the half when she scored off a rebound.
Lawless (Sr., St. Louis, Mo.) got the Bears on the board in the 37th minute when she scored off a rebound right in front of the goal. Lawless’ goal was her second of the year.
Bucknell out-shot the Bears 19-to-8, and placed nine shots on goal compared to MSU’s three. Liz Young (So., San Diego, Calif.) notched a career-high three defensive saves for Missouri State.
The Bears return to action with a pair of games next weekend vs. Indiana and Robert Morris in Bloomington, Ind. MSU will take on host Indiana at 3 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 13), then play Robert Morris at 2 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 14).
