The Missouri State Lady Bears (3-2, 0-0 MVC) return to JQH Arena Thursday at 7:05 p.m. after a successful four-game road trip to host the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (2-2, 0-0 Southland). Missouri State has a quick turnaround after the ORU contest with a first-ever meeting with Northern Kentucky looming at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1.
The Lady Bears have three wins since last playing at home, winning at Arkansas-Little Rock on Nov. 15 and beating Central Florida and UC Santa Barbara in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, after losing to Gonzaga in the first round of the Hardwood Tournament of Hope.
Thursday’s game will be the seventh meeting in just under five years with ORU, with the teams splitting the previous six.
Missouri State is 6-8 all-time against Oral Roberts but 6-3 in the last nine meetings. All five losses came in 1983 or earlier.
Thursday’s game will be the seventh meeting in less than five years, dating to Dec. 15, 2007. Missouri State grabbed an 85-79 win in Tulsa last season with Christiana Shorter scoring a career-high 27 points to go with 11 rebounds.
Missouri State and Northern Kentucky have never met in women’s basketball.
Scouting Oral Roberts
Oral Roberts is 2-2 so far this season with wins against Tulsa and UT Arlington and losses to Arkansas-Little Rock and Arkansas. The Golden Eagles are picked to finish third and fourth in the two preseason Southland Conference polls in their first season in that league.
ORU is led by senior guard Kevi Luper, a two-time All-American who ranks second among active players with 2,354 career points.
Oral Roberts averages 60.2 points per game and allows 63.2 while shooting 40.7 percent from the field, 32.7-percent on 3-pointers and 64-percent from the foul line.
Scouting Northern Kentucky
Northern Kentucky entered its Nov. 27 game with Youngstown State at 0-4 in its first season in Division I. The Norse won Division II national titles in 2000 and 2008, and went 2-2 against Drury when Nyla Milleson was the coach there.
Through four games, NKU averaged 50.2 points and allowed 63.5 while shooting 32.5-percent from the field, 25.3-percent from 3-point land and 60.7-percent from the charity stripe.
