The Missouri State Lady Bears (1-1, 0-0 MVC) make their second international trip in the last four months when they visit Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, for the Hardwood Tournament of Hope Nov. 20-22.
Missouri State begins the event Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. with Gonzaga and will play either No. 8 Louisville or Central Florida Wednesday at 6 or 8:30 p.m.
The Lady Bears' third game will be against one team from the opposite half of the bracket that includes UC Santa Barbara, Mississippi State, Oregon State and Winthrop.
A complete tournament packet is available on page 23 of these notes.
Missouri State has had success on its recent trips to Mexico for in-season tournaments, defeating Illinois-Chicago and Oral Roberts in 2005 in Playa del Carmen and beating Stephen F. Austin and Chattanooga in Cancun in 2008 for a four-game winning streak south of the border.

Series Histories
Missouri State is 1-0 all-time against Gonzaga, defeating the Bulldogs 85-66 in 2005 in the second round of its WNIT championship.
The Lady Bears are 0-1 against Louisville, losing 73-64 last season at JQH Arena, and have never played Central Florida.
As for the other side of the bracket, MSU is 1-0 against UC Santa Barbara with a victory in the first round of the 1999 NCAA Tournament; 1-1 versus Oregon State after each road team won in a home-and-home series in 2002 and 2003; and 0-0 against both Mississippi State and Winthrop.

Scouting Gonzaga
Gonzaga opened the 2012-13 season with wins at UC Riverside and USC before hosting Wisconsin (Nov. 16) and Monmouth (Nov. 18) prior to heading to Mexico.
The Bulldogs received votes in the Nov. 13 versions of both the AP and Coaches top 25 polls, and are picked second in the West Coast Conference after playing in four consecutive NCAA Tournaments and three straight Sweet 16s.
Gonzaga returns two starters and nine letterwinners from last season's 28-6 club.

Scouting The Rest of the Field
Louisville is ranked eighth in both polls and picked to finish third in the Big East. The Cardinals enter the Hardwood Tournament of Hope at 3-0 with wins against Texas A&M, Portland and Austin Peay.
UCF returns four starters from last season's 12-17 team that is picked to finish ninth among 12 teams in Conference USA this season. The Knights were 1-2 ahead of a Nov. 16 visit to SMU preceding their Mexico trip.
Mississippi State defeated Houston and lost to Hampton before a Nov. 16 game against Louisiana Tech in its first week of the season. The Bulldogs are picked to finish 11th in the SEC under first-year head coach Vic Schaefer.
Oregon State returns four starters from a club that went 20-13 and advanced to the third round of the WNIT in 2012. The Beavers are 1-1 with a win over Western Washington and a loss to Cal Poly.
UC Santa Barbara returns three starters from last season's 17-16 team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament by winning the Big West Tournament. The Gauchos are picked third in the league this year and are 1-1 with a loss to UNLV and win against New Mexico State.
Winthrop won its season opener against Troy and has a road game at Ohio State before traveling to Mexico. The Eagles return four starters from last year's 18-13 team and are picked to finish third in the Big South race this year.
