The Missouri State Lady Bears (0-0, 0-0 MVC) kick off their 45th season of varsity competition Monday at 7:07 p.m. at Arkansas State.
The first game of the Kellie Harper Era will be televised live on KCZ, The Ozarks CW in the Springfield market as well as Time Warner Cable SportsChannel in Kansas City and Charter Communications in St. Louis.
Missouri State's defense looked impressive in two exhibition games, forcing 54 turnovers and holding Arkansas-Fort Smith and Maryville to a combined 27.7 percent shooting.
The Lady Bears have a quick turnaround before the much-anticipated home opener against Arkansas-Little Rock at 7:05 p.m. on Nov. 13, and close a busy first week on Sunday the 17th at IUPUI.
Missouri State enters this year with a 22-22 record in season openers.
Missouri State holds a 10-7 series lead over Arkansas State and is facing ASU for a ninth consecutive season.
The Lady Bears are 4-5 against the Red Wolves in Jonesboro and have won five straight in the series, including an 83-60 home victory last year.
Missouri State won the last two match-ups in Jonesboro, 77-68 in 2011 and 73-65 in 2009.
Scouting Arkansas State
Arkansas State returns two starters and eight letterwinners from last season's club that went 15-15 overall and 12-8 in the Sun Belt Conference. The Red Wolves are picked to finish third in the 10-team league this season with senior forward Jane Morrill hauling in preseason all-conference honors after scoring 15.2 points and grabbing 5.4 rebounds last year.
ASU beat Harding (79-68) and Arkansas-Monticello (79-48) in its exhibition contests.
