Quincy's Late Run Closes the Gap to 39-34 at the Half
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Missouri State Lady Bears used a 19-2 scoring run to build a 15-point lead over Quincy only to watch the Lady Hawks rally to close the gap to 39-34 at the half Sunday afternoon in their final tune up of the 2010-11 preseason. MSU got eight points apiece from Whitney Edie and Casey Garrison, and forced 14 Quincy turnovers to gain the upper hand.
Trailing 14-12 with just over 14 minutes to play, Garrison's 15-footer kicked off the Lady Bears' key spurt. MSU would reel off 14 unanswered points before Ali Schwagmeyer's bucket at the 8:11 mark stopped the bleeding and pulled the Lady Hawks to within 26-16.
Christiana Shorter scored five of her seven first-half points during the run, and Lacey Boshe added a pair of free throws and a transition basket to help push the MSU lead to double digits.
Quincy rebounded behind the three-point shooting of Kassidy Shuman and Stephanie Wagner, who combined to go 6-of-10 from beyond the arc. Shuman's trey with 5:33 left started what would become a 16-8 run for the Lady Hawks to close the half.
As a team QU would go 6-of-12 (.500) from three-point range and shoot .429 overall from the floor.
The Lady Bears cashed in at the foul line in the game's opening stanza, going 12-of-15 (.750) as a team.
