SPRINGFIELD
-- The Missouri Valley Conference has finalized its 2013-14 women’s basketball schedule, the league announced Wednesday (Sept. 4), completing Missouri State’s slate for the upcoming season, the first under head coach Kellie Harper.

Missouri State will play a total of 16 games against 12 teams that participated in a postseason tournament in 2012-13. The non-conference schedule itself features eight games against 2013 postseason clubs, with the 11 teams on that portion schedule combining for a 217-136 (.615) record a season ago.

The MVC sent five teams to the postseason in 2013, including two NCAA Tournament bids, meaning the Lady Bears will have eight league games against postseason clubs after Creighton’s departure from the league.

The Lady Bears open league play Jan. 5 at Wichita State and play nine of the first 15 games at JQH Arena. In conference play, Missouri State has four home dates in January and five in February before closing the regular season at Wichita State on March 9. The MVC Tournament is set for March 13-16 at The Family Arena in St. Charles, Mo.

“This is a certainly a challenging schedule, but our team has worked extremely hard this summer to get ready for the season,” Harper said. “This group is very motivated and coachable, and that makes me very excited for what lies ahead this year.”

The Lady Bears open the 2013-14 campaign at Arkansas State on Nov. 11 before embarking on a stretch of eight consecutive games against competition that played in the postseason a year ago.

The home opener takes place Nov. 13 at JQH Arena against Arkansas-Little Rock, with additional non-conference home games against Quinnipiac (Nov. 26), Lamar (Dec. 15), Missouri (Dec. 19) and Southeast Missouri State (Dec. 21). The remainder of the pre-MVC road schedule includes visits to IUPUI (Nov. 17), Arkansas (Nov. 22), 2013 NCAA runner-up Louisville (Dec. 3), Eastern Kentucky (Dec. 5) and North Texas (Dec. 29).

Missouri State’s exhibition schedule includes home games against Arkansas-Fort Smith (Oct. 31) and Maryville (Nov. 4).

Missouri State enters the 2013 season with nine returning players from last season’s 14-17 club.
