St. LOUIS -- Missouri State junior guard Karly Buer has been selected to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete First Team, the league office announced Tuesday (March 12).

A repeat first-team choice, Buer carries a 3.92 cumulative grade point average while pursuing a degree in Sport and Park Administration. Buer is joined on the first team by Jacqui Kalin (UNI), Anna Munn (Indiana State), Sarah Nelson (Creighton), Taylor Whitley (Indiana State) and Katie Yohn (Bradley).

Buer averages 8.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists while starting 28 of MSU’s 30 games and ranking second on the club in minutes played. The Concordia, Kan., native shoots 90 percent from the foul line and 34.1 percent on 3-pointers, and bumps her scoring average to 9.8 points in MVC games.

Buer and the Lady Bears (14-16, 6-12 MVC) begin play at the conference tournament in St. Charles, Mo., Thursday at 4:05 p.m. against ninth-seeded Drake.

The criteria for the MVC’s Scholar-Athlete Team voting parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Capital One Academic All-America voting. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen were not eligible), must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution and must have played in 75 percent of their team’s games.
