DENTON, Texas -- Missouri State’s Bry and Tyonna Snow scored 21 points apiece Sunday to lead the Missouri State Lady Bears (5-6) to an 85-79 road victory over North Texas (5-7). Bry Snow’s 21 points and NiJay Gaines’s 12 both represented career highs as MSU’s two starting post players combined to shoot 10-for-19 overall and 3-for-3 from beyond the arc in Missouri State’s fourth consecutive win.

The Lady Bears got to the free throw line early and often, with season highs of 30 makes and 40 attempts being the difference in the game. MSU shot 19-of-25 in the second half alone to help overcome the Mean Green shooting 31-of-67 from the field compared to 25-of-55 for the Lady Bears.

Missouri State led 70-54 with 7:03 to play when the home team made things interesting in the closing minutes. The Mean Green ripped off a 10-0 run to close to 70-64 with 4:08 to go, and continued the comeback to a one-possession game at 74-71 thanks to a 3-pointer with 2:33 left on the clock.

Two free throws with 1:39 remaining made it 75-73 before the Lady Bears countered with three Tyonna Snow free throws and a Bry Snow basket to lead 80-73 with 1:02 left.

North Texas had one last push, pulling to 80-78 before Tyonna Snow hit three free throws and Hannah Wilkerson added two more to put the game away.

The first eight minutes of the game were played within one possession before MSU’s Lexi Hughes buried a 3-pointer with 11:52 on the clock for an 18-14 lead. Kenzie Williams added a free throw and Tyonna Snow hit two more for a 7-0 run and 21-14 score as North Texas went 4:28 without a point before closing to 23-21 with 8:07 to play.

Bry Snow responded with a personal 8-0 run that took just 2:13 of game time for a 31-21 lead with 5:33 to play, and the Lady Bears carried that 10-point lead into halftime at 35-25.

The second half began with Gaines pouring in nine points before the first media timeout as the Lady Bears built a 17-point lead at 46-29 with 16:49 to play in the game.

After two Williams layups made it 50-31 with 15:16 to play, the Mean Green cut MSU’s lead to 50-38 less than two minutes later before Gaines hit a trey for her career-high 12th point and a 55-40 advantage with 12:58 to go.

Bry Snow shot 7-for-13 from the floor and 6-for-8 from the line for her 21 points, while Tyonna made 13 free throws in 17 tries. Gaines finished with 12 points and six boards, while Williams scored 11 to finish in double figures for the 11th consecutive game.

Missouri State held a 39-34 rebounding margin, with Williams grabbing eight to lead the team. Wilkerson dished out a team-high four assists, while Tyonna Snow grabbed three steals to give her 26 in her last five games.

The Lady Bears open Missouri Valley Conference play on Jan. 5 with a 2:05 p.m. tip-off against Wichita State at JQH Arena.
