Whitney Burgess, like the rest of her fellow freshmen classmates, will have an opportunity to compete for early playing time. A post player in high school, Burgess adds much-needed depth to the Missouri State front line behind experienced returnees, Tiff Terwelp and Breton Wyett.
Burgess was a four-year starter at Huntsville High and picked up two varsity letters in volleyball. She garnered all-state recognition as a senior after leading Huntsville to the state playoffs. Burgess was named to the KURM Radio Dream Team and was selected to play in the Arkansas and NACC All-Star Games. As a junior, Burgess averaged 13.2 points and 10.1 rebounds per game and was named to the Green Forest Holiday Tournament All-Tournament Team for the second consecutive year. She also garnered MVP honors at the Harrison Holiday Tournament while picking up the event's Best Offensive Player and Rebounding awards. A three-time 4-A West All Conference selection, Whitney also received the Harrison Holiday Tournament's Hustle and Rebounding awards as a sophomore. and helped lead her AAU team to a state title as a freshman.
The daughter of Patty Burgess, Whitney Lynn was born November 12, 1987 in Huntsville, Ark. Whitney plans to major in biology, with aspirations of becoming an optometrist. She chose Missouri State over Arkansas Tech and Ouachita Baptist.
