Bears Secure Third Seed in State Farm MVC Tournament

Evansville’s loss gave the Missouri State men’s soccer team the third seed in the MVC tournament and they will face the Eastern Illinois Panthers in the opening round.  The Bears and Panthers will face off on Wednesday (Nov. 12) in Evansville, Ind., at 5 p.m.

The Bears needed Evansville to beat Drake on Saturday night (Nov. 8) to secure the second seed and a bye in the opening round of the Missouri Valley Tournament. Drake proved to be too tough for the Aces with a 4-1 victory.  The Bulldogs were led to victory by forward Garrett Webb with three goals.

The Bears defeated the Panthers in regular season play at home on Nov., 1 at Plaster Field. Bears’ junior defender Nick Dryden tapped in a corner kick from Johannes Demarzi with 3:45 left in overtime for the 1-0.  Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Riggs tallied seven saves on the night.

The Bears lead the series with an all-time record of 14-5 against the Panthers.  This will be only the second meeting between the Bears and Panthers in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.  The Panthers won the last meeting 3-1 in 2006.
