Bears Unable to Spoil SIUE Homecoming Weekend, Lose 2-1
The Bears fell to 5-5-3 and 0-3 in MVC play on Saturday, losing to SIU Edwardsville on the road in front of a crowd of 2,842 at Korte Stadium.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Missouri State men's soccer team (10-3-2, 5-0-0 MVC) have already clinched the first seed in the Missouri Valley Conference, but SIU Edwardsville (6-8-2, 2-3-0 MVC) still is playing for positioning.

In the final regular season game of 2013, the Bears will honor the six members of the senior class prior to kickoff. Seniors Cole Alexander, Matt Bray, Jarred Clark, Jared Gain, Callen Roselieb, and Trevor Spangenberg will play their last game in front of the home crowd at Plaster Field on Saturday night.

"It will be special," said redshirt senior goalkeeper Trevor Spangenberg. "We have the opportunity to play in front of our fans one more time on Senior Night."

Spangenberg is having one of the top seasons of any goalkeeper in the history of Missouri State soccer. He holds a 0.37 goals against average and has seven straight shutouts dating back to September.

Over the course of 2013, the Bears rank first out of all MVC teams in goals against average. Right behind them is SIUE, with 0.90 g.a.a.

While the Cougars haven't fared as well throughout conference play (4th in MVC games with 0.98 g.a.a), Saturday's match has major implications on SIUE's postseason seeding.

Depending on the results of this game, and the two other league games on Saturday night, SIUE can finish anywhere from third to sixth in the conference.

The Cougars currently sit tied for fifth-place in the league standings. SIUE can finish as high as No. 3 (with a win at Missouri State and either an Evansville win or tie over Bradley) and no worse than No. 6 (with a loss at Missouri State and depending on the outcome of Bradley at Evansville).

The conference tournament will begin in Peoria, Ill. on Nov. 13. Missouri State's top finish secured a first-round bye for the tournament.

Missouri State's Emmerich Hoegg and SIUE's Christian Volesky are tied for fifth best in the conference with five goals apiece on the year.

Saturday will also act as the 5th Annual Living OUR Legacy Game. There will be a free tailgate, food, and concert prior to the game in the parking lot across from Plaster Sports Conference on the Grand Ave. side. The festivities, which men's soccer and Missouri State ROTC are working together to put on, will open at 4:30.

The event will then transition to Plaster Field for the soccer game, with kickoff and Senior Night recognition beginning at 7:00 p.m. At halftime several alumni of the Missouri State soccer program will be recognized. The game can be followed through live stats at the link above or through the @MSUBearsMSoccer twitter account.
