Bears conclude regular season with 2-0 setback at Western Illinois
The Missouri State men's soccer team closed out its regular season with a 2-0 nonconference loss to Western Illinois University Tuesday in Macomb, Ill. Two goals in the first half lifted the Leathernecks to a 11-7 season record as the Bears dipped to 8-7-3.
WIU's Luke Greenwell broke a scoreless tie in the 17th minute of the contest off an assist from Martin Browne. Matt Wieclaw gave the Leathernecks their insurance goal at 27:29 as the second half remained scoreless.
The Bears were outshot 13-9 in the match but were even in cornerkicks, with six. In goal for Missouri State, Alex Riggs recorded six saves and WIU's Stephen Paterson posted two and was tagged with the win.
The Bears will next compete in the State Farm/MVC Tournament, begining on Wednesday Nov. 1. Times and matchups are still being determined.
