St. LOUIS -- Missouri State redshirt senior goalkeeper Trevor Spangenberg was named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week in soccer Monday for the third time in his career.

Spangenberg was named MVC Defensive Player of the Week twice in 2011, on October 17 and November 7.

Spangenberg recorded two shutouts this past week, both in double-overtime against Oral Roberts and Evansville. The Bears tied the school record with Spangenberg's fifth consecutive shutout on Saturday night at Evansville. Spangenberg's 14th career clean sheet moves him into sole possession of 4th all-time in the Missouri State record books, passing Matt Pickens. Missouri State is the NCAA Division 1 leader in goals against average and Spangenberg ranks second in the nation with his 0.425 g.a.a. Spangenberg also lowered his career goals against average to 0.72, which is now best in Missouri State history. The MVC leader in g.a.a. and shutout percentage is having a phenomenal senior season, after missing all of last year due to injury.

Missouri State returns to action Oct. 23 with a 7 p.m. match against Central Arkansas at Plaster Field.
