Men's Soccer Plays Bradley to 1-1 Draw
Missouri State battled Bradley to a 1-1 draw, Saturday, in Missouri Valley Conference action at Plaster Field. The Bears are now 4-8-3 overall and 0-1-2 in MVC action.
MSU’s attacking style of play kept Bradley off-balance throughout the match. The Bears continuously pressed the Bradley defense and fired 16 shots, compared to the Braves 11.
Justin Bigelow’s goal in the game’s 17th minute gave the Braves an early 1-0 lead. MSU came tantalizingly close to scoring a goal in the 33rd minute. Sophomore forward Will Ziegahn’s shot attempt off of a rebound from just in front of the Bradley goal was ruled to not have entirely crossed the goal line before Braves’ goalkeeper Mike Haynes scooped it up.
The misfortune of Ziegahn’s shot not being ruled a goal didn’t diminish the Bears’ effort, however. MSU sophomore defender Ryan Hennessey scored his second goal of the season in the 76th minute. Hennessey’s goal from just in front of the Bradley net, followed sophomore midfielder Johannes Demarzi’s header which banged off the post.
Neither team managed to find the back of the net in a pair of 10 minute overtime periods. MSU senior goalkeeper Lance Parker recorded four saves in the match. The Missouri State offense was led by Hennessey’s three shots on goal.
Missouri State will play at Creighton, Saturday (October 31). Ranked 10th nationally and currently leading the conference, the Blue Jays are the defending MVC regular season co-champion. Missouri State will conclude the regular season portion
of its schedule with home contests against the University of Missouri-Kansas City (October 31), Evansville (November 3) and Drake University (November 10).
