Men's Soccer Hits the Road for Mid-Week Conference Play

The Missouri State men’s soccer team will travel to Evansville for its second conference game of the season.  The Bears are coming off a heartbreaking last minute loss to Drake.

The Bears enter the contest with a 3-7-3 record and are 0-1 in conference play after a tough loss at Drake.  The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead just 23 minutes into the game. But, the Bears battled back to tie the game with goals from Justin Alford and David Buckenheimer. The Bears’ defense committed a critical mistake with fewer than seven minutes to go when they fouled Drake’s Ryan Moylan just 20 yards out.  Moylan capitalized on the error when he placed a shot in the upper left corner just out of the reach of Bears’ goalkeeper Alex Riggs for the 3-2 victory.

The Evansville Aces enter the match with a 7-4-1 record but are also 0-1 in conference play after falling to the second-ranked Creighton Bluejays in similar fashion as the Bears. The Aces also fell 3-2 on the road in the final minute of the game. Creighton’s Andrei Gotsmanov knocked home the winning goal with just 51 seconds left in the contest. The Aces will be a tough conference test for the Bears as they have outscored their opponents by a 25-16 margin this season.

The game will be in Evansville, Ind., at 7 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 15) and will be the second conference contest for each team.
