Men's Soccer Squad Drops 3-0 Conference Decision to Eastern Illinois
The Missouri State men's soccer team (5-3-2, 1-1-0) fell to the visiting Eastern Illinois Panthers (4-3-2, 1-1-0) in a 3-0 decision at Plaster Field today. The Panthers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute off a free kick converted by Jerry Maddi. Eastern Illinois doubled its lead off another free kick in the 66th minute. The Panthers' third tally would come in the 70th minute as the Panthers got a turnover and a three-on-two break. Missouri State's offense generated 22 shots in the match. Heath Melugin lead the Bears with four shots, while Paul Paradise, Ryan Hennessy and Edin Sabic added three shots. Gerard Barbero and Jordan Hoffman each added a shot on goal after coming off the bench. "They were a good, organized team that took advantage of their chances," said head coach Jon Leamy. "We had our chances today, but were unable to finish and put the ball in the back of the net." Missouri State will wrap up its three-game homestand hosting conference rival Creighton on Wednesday, October 7 at 4:00 p.m. The Bears beat Creighton earlier this season in Omaha, 1-0.
