Oct. 3, 2013
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Missouri State men’s soccer team (4-3-1) begins conference play against new Missouri Valley Conference opponent Loyola Chicago (3-5) at home on Saturday night.
The Ramblers joined the conference after twelve seasons in the Horizon League. This Saturday marks Loyola Chicago’s first MVC game in program history.
Despite being first-time conference foes, the Bears and Ramblers have met on two separate occasions. Missouri State holds an all-time 2-0-0 record against Loyola including a pair of shutouts in 1991 and 1998.
Missouri State will look to come out with a strong offense against Loyola. Missouri State is outshooting opponents 89-58 this season, and the Ramblers have allowed 2.00 goals per game over their first eight.
On the other end of the field, the Bears defense has looked impressive, only giving up two goals over the last three games. Goalkeeper Trevor Spangenberg has a strong GAA at 0.69, his career best thus far.
Loyola has been shutout in three of their last four games heading into Saturday.
